Keep premises compliant, protected and safe with fire-rated doors in a choice of designs. These doors act as a barrier in the event of a fire outbreak, adding compartmentation to room spaces so that people can evacuate the building safely. A fire-rated door enables access from one internal room to the next, protecting against flames, smoke and other hazards for set times as stated in a door’s specification.
These products contain fire within an affected compartment, stopping it from spreading flames and smoke into adjoining rooms and areas.
Areas covered by North London Windows include:
Barnet | Enfield | Epping | Islington | St Albans | Tottenham | Watford | East London | North London | All Surrounding Areas
Fire-rated doors are manufactured in fire-resistant materials, and a rating specifies the amount of time people have available to exit an affected property via an escape route; typically for a minimum of 30 minutes. Engineered with the frame, leaf and associated fittings and fixtures included, our fire doors can be built with a solid core or a specialist core. They are fitted with intumescent strips to seal the frame and leaf, stopping a fire from spreading around the edges.
Additional seals stop the spread of smoke in a fire’s early stages.
The specification of a fire-rated door indicates the minimum of time the product resists the spread of fire. Common ratings, such as FD30 or FD60, denote the containment of flames and smoke for at least 30 or 60 minutes respectively. FD30 fire-rated doors are ideal for use in residential homes, commercial premises and high-rise buildings.
FD60 doors are better suited to high-risk commercial situations, and FD90 to FD120 fire-rated doors can be used in an industrial setting.
Ratings apply to the entire unit and if the frame, door leaf, hinges or intumescent seals fail the rating test, so does the entire door. All fire-rated doors meet with BS 476-22 and EN 1634-1 standards. It is also common for products to have E or EI ratings with an E rating marking integrity and E1 ratings denoting insulation/heat transfer.
In line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it is a property owner’s responsibility to have fire-rated doors inspected on a quarterly basis in HMOs and in high-rise buildings of over 11m in height. Apartments or flats must be checked annually. Any faults should be reported immediately, and the resultant work undertaken.
In addition to Barnet, Enfield, Epping, Islington and Tottenham, the team at North London windows now operates in St Albans and Watford as well as in East London, North London and locations across the UK.
Fire-rated doors have the ability to save lives and, at North London Windows, we can specify a product that is suitable for the property and its escape routes. Keep in mind that the property owner is the person responsible for maintaining a regular inspection schedule and making sure that issues with an installation are quickly addressed.
